Compassionate In-Home Euthanasia & Pet Hospice Care, Led by Experience and Heart
We Bring Peace to Your Home Because Pets Deserve Comfort in Their Final Moments
At Peaceful Paws At Home Care, we believe that saying goodbye to your beloved pet should happen with dignity, compassion, and calm — not under fluorescent lights, not in a cold clinic, and never in a rushed moment.
Our mission is rooted in a deeply personal belief: pets are family, and they deserve to pass in the place they love most — home.
We’re not just another mobile vet. We are an in-home hospice and euthanasia practice dedicated to helping families through one of life’s hardest goodbyes. We’re here when it’s time to bring peace home.

He also owns West Woodward Animal Hospital, where families trust him for lifelong care and preventive medicine. His full-circle understanding of animal health allows him to guide you through the final phase with wisdom and care.
Our Founder
Dr. John Miskena, DVM
Peaceful Paws is led by Dr. John Miskena, a second-generation veterinarian, military veteran, and lifelong animal advocate who brings over 15 years of hospice and end-of-life care experience to every home visit.
Throughout his career, Dr. Miskena witnessed the fear that many pets experienced in clinics — especially in their final days. It was during the pandemic, while delivering difficult news to clients curbside, that something clicked. Families were grieving from their cars. Pets were scared. There had to be a better way.
That’s when Peaceful Paws was born — a heartfelt solution to an all-too-common problem.
"This isn’t just a service. It’s a calling. One that puts peace, dignity, and comfort above everything else."
Dr. Miskena brings a rare combination of clinical expertise and emotional intelligence. He listens deeply. He explains clearly. And he respects the bond between humans and animals in every interaction.

Our Philosophy: Heart-Led Veterinary Care
We know that no two pets — and no two goodbyes — are alike. That’s why everything we do is guided by three principles:
Comfort Above All
Whether your pet is experiencing chronic pain, cognitive decline, or terminal illness, we focus first on quality of life. Our in-home setting helps reduce stress and allows us to truly see your pet’s behavior in their normal environment. No exam tables. No anxiety-inducing car rides.
Compassion Without Pressure
Whether your pet is experiencing chronic pain, cognitive decline, or terminal illness, we focus first on quality of life. Our in-home setting helps reduce stress and allows us to truly see your pet’s behavior in their normal environment. No exam tables. No anxiety-inducing car rides.
Clarity in a Time of Uncertainty
From your first call to the final goodbye, we prioritize transparency and communication. You’ll always know what to expect, what’s next, and who to call. Our goal is to remove confusion from the process so you can focus on your pet, not logistics.

What We Believe
- Pets are family: They deserve to pass in familiar arms, not on clinic tables.
- Love and loss are deeply intertwined: We support both with equal compassion.
- Every goodbye should be a ceremony: Whether it's with quiet reflection or surrounded by family and music, your pet's passing should reflect your values.
- Honesty and guidance matter: We don't believe in false hope or confusing options. We help you understand what’s really happening so you can make confident choices.
- You never walk alone: From our first phone call to grief support afterward, our job isn’t done when your pet passes — it’s only just beginning.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know when it’s the right time to say goodbye?
There’s no easy answer, but we help you assess your pet’s quality of life using specific, compassionate criteria. If your pet is struggling with pain, mobility, appetite, or engagement, a consultation with our veterinarian can bring clarity and peace of mind.
What happens during an in-home euthanasia visit?
Our vet will arrive at your home, take time to meet your pet and family, and explain each step before beginning. We allow as much time as you need for goodbyes. The process is gentle, peaceful, and done at your pace in a setting that feels safe.
Do you offer emergency or same-day appointments?
Yes. Unlike many providers, we offer emergency availability and do our best to accommodate urgent needs. Please call us directly at (248) 721-8667 to check availability.
What are your service hours?
We’re available Monday through Friday, 8AM to 7PM, and do our best to respond to emergencies outside those hours based on availability.
Do you provide cremation or aftercare services?
Yes. We offer several respectful aftercare options, including private and communal cremation, memorial paw prints, and keepsake guidance. We can also coordinate transportation if needed.
Can you work with my pet’s regular veterinarian?
Absolutely. We’re happy to collaborate with your existing veterinary team to ensure continuity of care and provide a seamless experience for you and your pet.
